The operating system macintosh cant run everything windows can, but you can install windows onto your apple computer and your your apps on there if you really need to.
also, most comanies make both windows and mac versions.
1. Not nearly as often as in Windows in my experience or in most other peoples' experiences as far as I know. There are also no known viruses for Mac OS in the real world.
2. My computer-illiterate parents have done more things with their Mac than I would've even thought possible!
3. Yes it can. Not only do most Windows applications have an equivalent Mac native application (Microsoft Office, Web browsers, music players, etc.), but for rare Windows only programs, you can run them at full speed by installing Windows in addition to Mac OS on your Mac with Apple's Boot Camp. Not to mention virtualization tools like Parallels Desktop for Mac and VMware Fusion that will allow you to run Windows applications right alongside your Mac applications seamlessly.
I whole-heartedly recommend getting a Mac, you won't want anything else after!
