Is it even possible to repair an external hard drive?

I have a SimpleTech 160 GB external hard drive. Its making a quiet "buzzzz-click" noise. Tech support says it is defective and needs replacement. (of course!) Ive taken it apart and banged it on the table a couple of times. Any better suggestions?

Answers:
They can't be repaired, toss it in the trash. Just for ur information beings ur going to purchase a new hardrive, Seagate is my choice, they were the first company to make hardrives for pc's and u can't purchase any better. They might cost a little more but thier longivity more than makes up for it.
What kind of harddrive do you have in your external hard drive? is it from western digital? or maxtor? segate? Harddrives usualy come with 1-5 years warranty. you might be able to get it repaired for free if there is still warranty left on your harddrive. but you shouldn't bang your harddrive on the table. they won't cover any physical damage.
Yeah, slap yourself for voiding the warranty by taking it apart. You could have just sent it to the manufacturer. Good night!
Simple answer, throw it in the trash and buy a new top of the line like Lacie, Maxtor, or Mercury.
Don
The cost of repair will B ore than the cost of a new 1.
