Any tips for install SATA HDD 3.0 Gb/s when my Main drive is an IDE?

Specific tips. I haven't even touched or seen an SATA cable yet alone a hard drive. I'm used to an IDE drive much simpler. I'm going to buy an SATA HDD OEM soon and just wanted some tips.

P.S. Seagate.

Your motherboard must have SATA connector. Plug in the SATA cables, (data and power) and start your computer. Go to BIOS and set boot priority to IDE first. Enable the SATA drive (if necessary) as a secondary device. Boot up and the SATA should show in Windows Explorer.
Make certain your motherboard has SATA 3.0 port, set your BIOS to boot from SATA before IDE, if you intend to use the SATA for your O.S. drive.
ide is not simpler. you have the potential of bending pins or accidentally trying to connect the cables backwards. sata cables are small and much easier to connect. make sure your mobo supports sata because if it only supports ide, purchasing a sata hdd wont do you any good as you wont have the connections for it. assuming you do have the sata connections onboard its simply a matter of plugging in the hdd. good luck.
I myself just installed a Seagate SATA 160GB drive in my Dell PCI computer and it works great even though I didn't have any SATA ports on my mother board. Since yours is IDE, if you don't have the SATA ports on the MotherBoard, what you have to do is to also purchase a SATA to IDE converter board that attaches to the SATA drive and converts it to use the IDE connectors. Here is a link to purchase the converter - you might search around more and find a cheaper price but this one would work.

There is not much to it. I have connected SATA 2 (3.0gb) to a SATA 1 port and it works fine and without a hitch.
