14,000 viruses found, do viruses affect the motherboard, CMOS, BIOS?

No joke, found about 14,000 viruses on a hard drive (No Anti Virus for 2 years). Computer was working, but obviously very slow and all kinds of pop ups, so then I uninstalled sum generic expired anti virus and was going to install MCAFEE, so I uninstalled the antivirus program that was expired since 2005 and when I restarted the computer, it never came back on.
I figured it was because of the viruses, so I did a new windows install on that hard drive using another computer, but when I plugged the hard drive back to the original computer it still didnt work.
What happens is that the fans and power turn on and even the DVD drive turns on but it doesnt read the hard drive, it doesnt even go into BIOS. The monitor stays off like if the computer were turned off (orange light).
Its not the monitor or HD cables because I tested them and they work, it just doesnt make sense that exactly when I removed the anti virus, this happend, and it was workin for 2 years.
WAT THE $^@! is this?

Viruses do not effect hardware-Currently. I do not believe that your problem is due to the viruses. One of four things has happened.

1. You knocked the video card loose while you were removing or replacing the hard drive.

2. The power supply stopped working when you tried to reboot the computer. I know this sounds weird. but this is when a power supply will give up.

3. Static electricity discharged on the main board and blew something out.

4. You are the victim of the bad capacitor problem that has been plaguing computer owners for the last 3 years.

I would look into the bad caps first. It is as easy as opening the case and shining a flashlight in to see if they are swelling or leaking.

Next I would check the power supply. If you have access to another power supply than change it out and see if this solves your problem.

Make sure that your video card has not come loose. (this happens all of the time.)

If none of this works you may have to test the system with a known good video card as that is the problem.

OH and buy the way do not buy a virus scanner here is a good one that is free,

One last thing, if the video comes on and the post screen is visable. (power on self test) this means that the system is functional. If the hard drive is not set to the proper setting (master or slave) then the computer will hang on post. Make sure that it is set using the jumper in the back of the hard drive. If it is your boot drive then it should be first on the cable and set to master. I would put it back into the computer that it came from and then install windows.
well i think u are lying. ur computer woulda stopped working a long time ago. get a faster connection and buy a new computer. install windows xp black edition to it
Nope. Format hard drive, reinstall operating system, and you'll be okay. With that many viruses I would not backup anything except for maybe very important personal files (word documents, pictures).
lol, throw your computer out the window.
As i thought, some viruses effect exactly on your H.D.D and they can be very dangerous about the BIOS...
Some strong viruses can manipulate BIOS contents so that they can role with lots of mistakes...

I recommend that you Upgrade your BIOS chip, maybe it work properly and about the problems with your H.D.D, I have the same problem, too... I don't mind its a cause of virus effect
Do you have more than one antivirus program installed on your computer? Sometimes, if more than one is installed, what happens is that one antivirus programs sees the virus definitions database of the other antivirus program and assumes that they're viruses.
Sounds more like you had a lot of spy ware...
Go get Ad ware free home version...
http://www.lavasoft/com

and get Avast free anti virus...
http://www.avast.com

Keep in mind no one spy ware will remove all spy ware...

I would do a re-install of your computer and the make sure you add these programs and run them...

If you want to try and install these programs first to save all your info - it might work...Joe
your computer now has one pupose in life: target practice! formatting the drive will not work, if the viruses have spread to other parts of the computer, including the motherboard. My brothers had a virus even on their video card! your computer is JUNK! wait... you know... with a bottle, and some gasoline... BAM!
Dude, this is going to sound like a wiseass answer but ...
Get a Mac. One that boots in both Windows and OS X. A second hand G5 will set you back about 900 on Craigslist. Here's a couple in my area just today. At least think about switching.

This one is sweet.

Unless you are a gamer, then you're stuck with Windows or buy a dedicated gaming console.

14,000. Unreal.
