AMD are about to release new quad core processor that's supposed to be better but quite honestly you wouldn't notice much of a difference.
The Intel Quad-Core is Intel's best processors.
It all depends on which processor you're looking at.
AMD Athlon 64 FX-74 is better than Core 2 Duo Extreme, it can blow Core 2 Extreme off easily.
AMD is Intel are almost identical performance wise, the AMD tends to run hotter and draw more power though. They also are cheaper and usually use cheaper motherboards. This tends to make AMD less reliable when compared with Intel. I would go with Intel all the way. I would need more info to make a serious comparison of the two. Such as model numbers, you can also just google each one and check the specs.
