PC problem - help!?
Any ideas? Please? The Pc must be 4 years old. Can it be fixed?
Answers:
Did you open the case to see if there was any thing obstructing the fans to make them sound louder ?
If the computer has never been cleaned in 4 years, it is possible the fans have become clogged with dirt and or the fan has broken, come loose or the motor of the fan finally is giving out.
When you turn the computer on, does the light on the monitor stay green or does it turn amber/orange ?
If it turns amber/orange, then the computer is not sending out a video signal. If you have a PCI Video card that plugs into a slot on the motherboard, the card is dead or has come loose.
If your video card is embedded on the motherboard, then either the video controller has gone bad, or the motherboard is blown or the cpu (processor).
Can you hear the hard drive spinning, do the lights for the hard drive at the front of the tower blink ?
If you have no clue.. take it into a professional to get an estimate on how much it will cost to fix it. Base this on if you want to throw it out or purchase a new one.
some piece of hardware is likely dead ... unplug everything but 1 stick of memory, the processor, the videocard, and the psu and try to get it to at least post ...
Try to push all the internals in properly like the ram sticks, ur pci slots etc
And for a 4 year old computer theres no point in fixing it, throw it out
could be a bad cmos battery, and the bios needs to be reset, could also be a bad power supply. Since you can't boot far enough to even enter the bios, I would have the power supply tested.
