Dell Dimension 4400 case?
Answers:
I would throw away that case. If you are picking components to build an awesome computer, don't limit yourself by a lousy case. Start with the motherboard, processor and memory.
You see, when you spend a bit of money on a good ATX case, you will have less trouble getting everything in, and working.
Of course, a whole system is always cheaper than building your own. You see, the whole system will include expensive software and such. The only reason why you would build your own, is so you can buy really good components. So starting with some lame old DELL case is a bad way to start on the path toward AWESOME.
If I were to build a budget do-it-yourself, I'd start with BioStar
BIOSTAR TForce TF7025-M2 Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 7025 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - $69.99

and
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+(65W) Windsor 2.0GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor - $65.50

or the combo for $125.49
Then I would look for a good case for that and aim for a 500Watt power supply. Then I would buy a Hitachi hard drive.
Good luck and Happy Computing!
The Dell Dimension 4400 case is ATX, most motherboards should fit in.
