PC PROBLEMS, HELp!?

I've been getting a windows stop error. Also, when the pc is shutting down, it shows the windows xp screen saying "windows is shutting down" for about 5-10 minutes, with the hard drive sitting inactive, until the hard drive light finally lights up and the pc shuts down. How do i fix these stuff?

You might have virus in your PC so scan it and defrag once.
for free antivirus (you should have atleast 2 antivirus software in your PC-Make sure not conflicted ones) download.

sounds like a program is hung up, or trying to run. look in task manager, see whats running.
it's hard to say without any additional info. but you could have a bad hard drive or power supply. take care.
something is getting hung up. do a system restore back to before the problem started, and of course run some virus and spyware scans, defragg,, the usual clean up stuff.
