A friend is having trouble starting up her computer. The only thing the screen says is NTLDR is missing.?

The whole message is NTLDR is missing press CTRL + ALT+ DELETE to reboot. However the the rebooting doesn't work. It is a Windows XP system.

If you don't know much about computers then good luck, but there is a way to fix this problem without reinstalling the whole operating system. Use the RECOVERY CONSOLE to replace the file. Depends on how much you know about computers but it'll be hard to explain if you don't know very much about computers.
NTLDR = netloader. it is a file system for windows. sorry sounds like you will have to re-install your windows about and lose all of your files.
I typed in NTLDR on the Internet & I got this web site

www.computerhope.com/issues/ch...

it said to boot from the hard drive

check out the site & hope it helps
Actually it means NT loader rather than netloader as the first person said. It is a required file to boot Windows. Usually, if that screen comes up then it means that the file has become corrupted in some way and about the only thing you can do is re-install Windows.
buy a new computer
put your windows XP disk into the CD ROM and boot to the ROM and when it asks if you want to do a full install or just repair windows, choose the repair option. it may solve your dilemma
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000... Just go to that site. I also had this problem but this site had helped me. I hope it helps you too
