I have a Compaq desktop PC running Windows XP and I know the speakers work (I plug them into my ipod and I can play music) but when plugged into the computer they don't work. I know it's not just the sound being turned off, because when I try to run a program that uses sound it says there is an error with the sound system. This only happened after I got someone to wipe my hard drive and when the same thing was done a while ago the same thing happened with my speakers. Somehow last time I managed to get them to work but I can't remember what I did. Any ideas?
Answers:
You need sound drivers installed.
Head over to
http://www.hp.com and click on Software and Driver Downloads and follow the trail to get to ALL the files for your make and model.
Additional:
OK, it's a Presario. That's a start! There should be a sticker on it somewhere showing the model number.
Best of luck!
go to the compaq website and update your sound card driver for your computer
Have a read of this and see if it helps:-
