You can actually increase its size in Windows. BUT virtual memory is VERY SLOW. Better just increase RAM so that you hardly use virtual memory. 1Gb RAM is great for Win XP, 2Gb for Vista.
yup you could take your tower CPU to a computer hardware store and tell them that you would want more memory ram.

virtual memory is the memory dedicated to the video/graphics on ur pc. If you have a graphics card you should have enough. but sounds like you have onboard graphics which takes memory from your main ram. But yeah you can buy more. http://www.tigerdirect.com
Virtual memory is a combination of your physical memory and disk space. Most programs cannot fit into actual memory, so virtual memory is a scheme that places the most needed pieces of your program (word, excel, etc) into memory and 'pages' in other pieces of the program into memory from disk. Virtual memory is memory that is used on a hard drive once the physical RAM memory is used up. This is much slower than RAM, so don't rely on virtual memory for performance.

There's physical memory - the onboard chips, and the hard drive space. Virtual is a way to effectively give you more onboard RAM by taking an area and swapping it out to disk. You can control the amount of your virtual memory just from your control panel.
It's really a factor of how much disk space you've got, so free up some space - remove some programs you don't need. If you really are tight for space, add another disk drive, but chances are if your machine was purchased in the last couple of years you should have plenty.
Oh, and check for viruses/malware on your system - maybe something's running that's chewing up memory.
But no, you can't "buy" more virtual memory. You can, of course, buy more physical memory if your machine will take it (some require you replace chips in certain order or in pairs) and a computer store can help you with that - just bring your model # and type along. But for virtual, just getting some free disk space will do wonders.
Virtual Memory is space on your hard drive called a page file. Your computer utilizes your hard drive as physical memory. You do not need more RAM. Increasing your page file should fix the problem.

Virtual memory is not your ram! Virtual memory is a portion of your hard drive that your system uses for idle processes. You want to increase the size of your VM. Also you may want to scan your system for spy ware and viruses.
