At your level of computing, any laptop will mainly do the trick. You arent in need of specialized hardware so I'd say stick with the big brands that offer the best tech support. Go with an HP and if they dont have one that suits your needs, go with Dell. The main advantage to the big companies is the tech support. Once you get to gaming rigs and like, they over charge you, but for the economy laptops, they can give low prices because they sell so many. I'd say HP first and then Dell, and dont forget to look in stores as well as online because stores have sales and 25% coupons and the like.
Hey, go to a store called radio shack, it has the cheapest laptops, the kind of laptops you want, for all that you told me, you should buy getaway, or dell, dell is faster, but its like 700 dollars, getaway is like 600, but dell is better, you choose.
A good basic laptop is a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092.
