Can hacker who has my 'wireless' ip address, use it to hack me?
Someone has attained my Ip address, the Ip address of my laptop internet connection. With the Ip address, can they get into my computer system? can they use that ip address to download spyware etc on my system without me knowing?
What If i have NOT downloaded anything this person has sent me nor open any attachments, is it then will possible for them to hack my system, based on simply having my IP address?
Someone help me please, I am really worried about my person data being accessed by a hacker as I know this person has my ip address.
Answers:
Whoever owns the wifi connection is the one who failed to secure his network. You're getting free Internet bandwidth from him, and might be able to hack his pc.
While having your IP makes it easier to mount a hack attack on you, generally you are petty safe if "sharing" is turned off on your drives, and all your ports are closed.
Your IP is not exactly secret information, your browser tells your IP to every server you connect to on the net. try this link:

Go to "Shields Up" for a test of your ports:

If your ports are locked up, you should be safe from hacks, unless you do something silly ike opening unknown attachments or running a trojan.
Encrypt your wifi connection. Change your IP.
YES! and if your afraid of using your computer you should turn it off and never use it again!!!
just kidding install a firewall and some anti spyware systems that should keep them off and lock your wireless connection so no one else can pick it up and use it.
change your IP address
you should be ok just don't connect to other people routers.
When you connect to a router you get a dynamic private IP address as long as your connected. when you disconnect it gets released back to the router. Now outside the router there is only 1 IP address and unless the router has port forwarding enabled and setup then nothing can be routed to your PC, if its internal to the router, then possible if you have the same private IP next time you connect.
If you have your own router and secure it you won't have any trouble
