Advice for buying a new laptop?

Hi,

I use my laptop for surfing the net, work (excel, word etc.) and for downloading tv shows. It's a Dell Inspiron 1100. It's pretty slow and i get super choppy playback when i try to watch a downloaded video, dvd, or something off of youtube. i have a new hard drive and have drfraged and everything else i can think of - it's from 2003; I think i need a new one! Any advice which model I should get or what the most important features would be and what price range I could expect?

THANKS!

The best advice I can get give you when buying a laptop is always go for the biggest hard-drive,ram etc that you can afford
Lol you have to defrag your hard drive? lawl.

If you want good hardware and an awesome OS then go with Apple. I'll let my source speak for itself.

Wait, to the guy above me. Bigger hard drive doesn't always mean a good thing. For laptops bigger hard drive usually mean lower speed because we haven't reach the technological level to make desktop comparable hard drives that spin at 7200RPM. If you a lot of video editing or photoshop then you want a hard drive that spins faster. Or get a FireWire external hard drive.
Also RAM depends on the OS you are using and the applications you plan on using. If your OS is Vista crap then you'll be at least 2GB for Premium and above. If you game you might as well just get 2GB or any modern games, up it to 3-4GB. You see Mac OS X doesn't need gluttonous amount of hard ware to run basic features.
You do not say if mobility is a key requirement for you. From your primary uses, I must assume not. I have recently bought a laptop for my wife who has, pretty much, the same requirements as you. I bought her an Acer5633WMLI with the following configurations: Intel Dual CoreT5500, 2MB RAM, 15.4" Crystal Clear screen, Separate NVIDIA graphic card, k120gb HDD and DVD Dual Layer Recorder. Saw this configuration in Comet (but only 1mb RAM) at £699, but bought mine from SimplyAcer.com at £499.

Great value and wife more than happy - which,in turn, makes me very happy!!

Good luck.
if you just complete a few quick tasks on this site they'll send you a sony laptop, completely free of charge!!
You should buy a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092. I have one, and I love it. I would highly recommend it.
