Anyway to change a lap top hdd to flash type?
anyone tried it?
Answers:
There are plenty of projects talking about this online.
You should also search for fixed or solid state hdd too.
Essentially, there is only really two reasons why this will not catch on for conventional use - size of available hdd today (WAY bigger than flash has got) and bloated software requirements (the bigger the hdd get the more bloated the software appears to become)
There is a niche area for lightweight and compact flash hdd in devices like mobile phones etc where the memory requirement is lower and the weight critical.
Building a laptop with flash instead of hdd is certainly possible - some may even argue quite easy. The point is . well what's the point?
i've successfully made my old laptop hd into a flash drive. it's only as thin as the hd, so it's about the size of a calculator, so it's very portable. only requires the usb power. just look online on ebay for hard drive enclosures. the link is below. MANY shapes and sizes. I like mine. Works well.
No I haven't tried it, but yes it is possible. The operating system will see it as a regular hard drive without needing any special tools or configuration. As long as it connects to the computer's IDE or SATA connection and calls itself a hard drive, it's a hard drive for all the OS knows or cares. However if you want to take advantage of those hybrid ReadyBoost drives, you will need Vista.
