Why can't I get my sister's laptop (with Vista) online using the wireless router?
I've gone through the whole manual (which kinda sucks) for the router at least 15 times and went through the whole set up process, restarted it, did updates, etc.
When I view all "available networks" and try to connect to ours ("default"). This is the dialogue of messages I get:
"Default" is an unsecured network
>Connect Anyway
>Connect to a different network.
(I select "Connect Anyway")
Windows cannot connect to "default"
>Diagnose the problem
>Connect to a different network
(I select "Diagnose the problem")
Windows cannot connect to "default"
Wireless association failed due to an unknown reason
>Try connecting to default again (which doesn't work)
>View available wireless networks (which there aren't any)
Can anyone help me?? She's starting college next week and I really want to get the internet up and running for her.
Answers:
There should be a helpline somewhere in the manual that came with the router. I would call them and they can talk you through step by step and get you set up. That is what I had to do and they were extremely nice.
.
Her system may be detecting and blocking as a public network.
Open Windows Firewall and confirm the "Don't Allow Exceptions" is unchecked.
Be careful to not turn off the firewall. You just want to allow exceptions.
Best wishes,
pup
