Acer Laptop screen fault - bright white - any ideas?

I have an Acer Sempron laptop which about 18 months old. It was on yesterday afternoon and after a while i noticed that the screen had gone white for no reason. I thought it had locked/frozen or something, so i re-booted it, but when it started up again, same white screen. Obviously the screen isn't dead (all the pixels are lit) but it doesn't seem to be displaying anything but white. Any ideas?

It's probably a screen fault. Get hold of a monitor and see if the svga port is working.
Yep, sounds like a problem with the screen driver hardware as opposed to the actual TFT panel itself.

Good advice to check to see if the laptop will run an external screen to help diagnose where the problem may be.

With the price of laptops how they are these days it may not be cost effective to repair.

Some top level household insurances may cover you for this.
