I have a compaq presario notebook with intergrated altec lansing sprakers, and they are not working help!?

First thing, right click on the Icon and make sure Mute is not selected for any of the outputs. Also, check the level setting of the sliders. Of primary concern is System speakers settings. If that yields no help, go to Device Manager in the Control Panel/System adn make sure it is operational. You may need to let it reload the driver.
hey mate, i used to have the same problem,
this is how i resolved it:
1. Go to: Control Panel> Printers and Other Hardware
2. Select: Add Hardware ,from the left navigation bar menu
3. an Add Hardware Wizard should appear,
select Yes, Next> and from the list of Installed hardware,
select Network Media Controller (the one with Question mark icon), then just next>next> to get the wizard find the installer file
4. once it found it, it will install it and it should work instantly!
