Why does my laptop lag when I play Counter Strike?

It doesn't happen at first, only after playing for like an hour. My laptop is fairly new, 2006 HP-Dv4000 and my internet connection is Fios. Is the reason it lags the video card? It also makes my laptop very hot and at that point it starts to lag.

Hi,

I hate to say it, but the people above really didn't read your question properly, and so they gave you bogus answers.Gaming is processor intensive, it requires lots of computations from your processor, the more cycles your video card and processor execute at heavy load, the hotter they get. The reason it takes an hour before you notice it is because that how long it takes the processor to get so hot that it overwhelms the cooling system
When the computer realizes that your processor isn't being adequately cooled, it throttles back processor speed to cool things off. Slower processor = laggy game.

The easiest and cheapest way to fix this is to get a cooling stand for your laptop, you can get them anywhere.

you probably need a new video card or ddr ram, also try searching the net on how to optimize your frames per second. This can make it run smoother and faster.
1) It is because of the frame rates with which you play is slow it should be atleast 99FPS. Increase the fps from console.

2) Notice the latency when you play over internet coz the internet speed which you see may differ when you play so have a look in the latency column in the scoreboard card.
Yes, a video card is a major part in gaming. If you the intel graphics, they are totally intergrated and the most you can do with them is watch a movie, let alone play a game. Unfortunately, you cannot upgrade video cards in laptops. For counter-strike, you would want something nvidia geforce go 7600 or any of the newer nivida geforce 8000m series. An ati radeon mobility x700 would give you great performance too.
put the thing in a place that 'air' is moving,or get a small fan and let it blow on it,clean out the thing with a air compressor,or you may need more memory, hopefully you are running at least 1 mg of mem,if you leave it plugged in the ac all the time take the battery out, that is the one of the reasons it gets hot,not the only reason but it helps to take it out
your RAM needs to be at least 600 to play it
you need to atleast upgrade your video card and your RAM..
but i guess it is better to use PC for gaming than using laptop..
