MacBook Question?
Either way, I'll be getting 1 GB memory and a 160 GB hard drive. I'm just having a lot of trouble trying to decide whether I want a white computer or a black one. My main concern is the extent to which the white one will show minor damage... I don't want to pay $1000+ and have it look banged up; when the price is already so high, another $200 to make it black isn't a huge deal (but of course I'd rather save the money if I don't absolutely need to spend it)
What do you think I should purchase?
Do I need a 2 GB memory (laptop will be used for normal student work: word processing, internet, music)? I would rather just pay the $158 than have to suffer with a slow computer for 4+ years..
Answers:
I have white - it does not show a lot of damage. Get a hard case for it to protect it, nevertheless. It is not work the $200 for black, in my view.
As to the memory, I'd personally recommend getting the minimum, and upgrading with memory bought from www.newegg.com. Its cheaper. I did it, and its very, very easy. I takes maybe 5 min. Macs use PC2-5300 DDR2 667 MHz Type RAM .

You are making the right choice eitherway - macs are amazing
Also, consider getting a refurnished mac. It will save a few 100 dollars
Go with 2gb and color dosent matter try to get as fast as hard drive 5400 rpm+
I have a white Macbook, for over a year now. It shows no wear and tear. I have 1 gb of ram and the 160 gb hard drive. If you watch a lot of videos or do a lot of photography, you need the space. I also bought a keyboard pad and soft foam cover for it from radtech.com. The cover helps cushion it, the keyboard pad keeps the finger oil off the screen and can be used to wipe the screen off. I also bought a nice cushioned hard case from Kensington that I use when I am on plane trips. I can keep my iPod and cables in it also.
