Just got a new Dell Inspiron 1501 with windows vista home basic (hope it wasn't a mistake). I am totally unfamiliar with this operating system as well as dells. Is there a good site to tell me how to configure it for better performance (heard its' a real system hog) and also maybe to remove some of the preinstalled crap I don't need? Thanks.

WHY did you get Home Basic? You should have gotten at least Home Premium, or else it's just not worth it.
Try searching for Vista Tweaks on ur preffered internet search engine.
