It depends upon how much you're spending. In general terms, the Core 2 Duos are the best consumer CPUs on the market, but it's like video cards between Nvidia and ATI- different models are better at different price points. Intel's Core 2 Duo E4300 is faster than AMD's Athlon X2 3800+ but slower then the 5200+
A Core 2 Duo E6700 outperforms AMD's Athlon X2 6000+, but costs twice as much ($317 vs $162 on NewEgg). So for the same money, you might be able to build a faster system going with AMD.
You have to consider the cost of other components like the motherboard, RAM, etc. If the CPU breaks your budget and can only afford 1gb of ram and a cheap video card to go with it, an AMD 6000+ system with 4GB of RAM and a Geforce 8800GTS will smoke you in overall performance.
If you want to burn $1000 on a processor, go for a Core 2 Extreme X6800 - it's the fastest desktop processor out there.
I believe the T series of Core 2 Duos are mobile processors for notebooks.
amd is usually 64 bit.go for amd.amd 4400 is really good.it am pretty sure it equals a intel with 3.46 GHz

They are both good. But the only one I've had to replace is the Intel.
