My new laptop is wi-fi certified. Does that mean I don't need a wireless adapter?
Answers:
Usually a laptop that has that rating means it has a built in wireless card. To determine if this is the case, click on Start button, goto My Network Places, in the left upper area, click on View Network Connections. This should show you all your available connections, more than likely you will show 3, one will be a modem, one will be a wired type connection, and the third will be your wireless adaptor.
If you laptop is a Dell, it will typically be an Intel Wireless Pro series B/G wireless adaptor. Which means it is capable of connecting to either B rated or G rated wireless connections without adding another adaptor card.
correct...
That is probably what it means.. So I would say that you are "Good to Go". I would call your manufacturer to verify it though and I would of course pour through your owner's manual and look for the section on "WiFi" and "Wireless Connections". One of the best pieces of advice that I would give you is to get some some good WiFi software. Here is a link for a best rated program and it's completely FREE..

Good Luck!

Hmmm. at first blush I'd say yes, but "certified" does not mean it has a wifi card in it.
I'm not familar with Vista (I'm assuming that since it's new that's what's on it) but this should be about the same as XP. Go to Control Panel:Network Connections and see what it says in there about available connection types.
