Why does my laptop run so slow?
Answers:
If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working the way it was originally. If you using your laptop for normal stuff and not gaming. You got a good setup. You don't need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.
Firstly, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events has a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you should clean your registry, you make more resources available for spped. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.
2. Clear your Windows cache files, this your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:
1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".
3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.
4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.
5. Click OK.
3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:
1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK"
Other great tip is increasing your virtual memory to simulate more RAM. This will give you a bit more resources for multiple program use or CPU heavy programs. Check the link to alter your virtual memory spec.
Hope this link helps. Shows you how to do everything step by step. You should get a least 60% more resources and speed if you follow the tips.

becuase it does
You may have to increase the ram. Vista needs a minimum of 1 gb ram for optimal performance. Removal of unnecessary programmes from the start up will also help.
It might have to do with temporary internet files you may have on your laptop. If so,delete them.
i had the same problem.so i took it to a pc shop and the lady took off norton and put on avg and now my laptop is whizzing along.....gl....
there are sooooooo many settings, and possibilities for a slow running laptop/pc. Start with programs running in the background and turn off the ones you don't need...check memory, virtual memory alotment and hard drive space available. Temperature has alot to do with it as well as battery life, or wether its plugged in or not..power schemes, if you have themes running, certain services, programs.is windows defender scanning? is your antivirus updating? there's way too many things that could cause a computer to slow down.
Run disk cleanup, and defrag the hard drive..adjust your display settings and power options, go into the advanced system configuration and adjust those settings for best performance...check the task manager for programs or services using up processor/memory.check msconfig for items running at bootup that don't need to..also check your startup folder.
run a registry cleaner.like ccleaner to clear out old and unused files.
Vista needs 2gig of memory to function well. Add memory if possible.
Defragment your hard drive. Open My Computer... Right click C:\, and choose Properties... Tools tab... Defragment.
See if it runs faster when plugged in. If so, then it is throttling down (running slower) to conserve your battery. Open the Power settings in Control Panel, and change these settings. Be aware that your battery will run down much faster.
Downloading porn always makes computers slow.
Dump the smut off the hard drive, then reboot.
because its a crap laptop it doesn't matter if its got vista on it if anything it'll make it run slower iv got a laptop and its got xp on it and it goes really fast
It is because of one of two things either you have too many programs running in the background. Or your laptop was not ment for vista (You installed Vista on your own).
Assuming you bought the laptop with vista on it you can assume that the problem is that there are too many programs running in the background. You have to disable or uninstall the programs from starting up.
Also if you bought a cheap laptop (less then $1000 you can expect problems you get what you pay for) it probably does not have enough RAM (you need 2GB of RAM to run vista comfortably).
This may help it's a guide for optimizing your system.
