In my opinion, compaq is good. Its look is very stylish also you can try laptop from apple.

I've heard good things about Lenovo and Toshiba.
Dell Latitude are great laptops, I use one daily and it's rock solid. Some though are better than others, and Dell's tech support arguably sucks.
I'd avoid HP / Compaq (poor support), Gateway, Averatec (cheap quality), Sony (overpriced).

i would say compaq too i'd advise to stay clear of acer but that is just my family had bad luck with them

acer is good and very cheap. compaq and lenovo is good for your support and for usage. toshiba will be the best for laptops. but u will be having some problem in buying it. mostly acer, compaq, toshiba doesn't give you the recovery disk which would be problem for you in future. But they give you the recovery data in the laptop itself. they probabaly crate a partition for nearly 10 gb and keep the recovery therre. But if that recovery is once writted in your cd. it will destroy itself and you will be having it only in your cd/dvd. so for that you could go for hcl which is cheaper and they give u the recovery cd and they give many options in it, if u r buying in hcl dealer.
taking lenovo in consideration go for lenovo n series or r series notebooks. n series generally costs higher but they give you with the nice configuration. which is the important matter in buying a laptop.
