Upgrading memory on my dell inspiron 1100?

i have two slots and i currently have 256 mb total (128mb each slot) . i was planning to upgrade for a 512 mb in one slot. so my memory would be 384mb total. can i upgrade the other remaining mb slot with a 512 mb as well? what should i do??
my computer only allows 1 gb memory so i think it will work. what do you guys think?? also, my hard drive has only 5.28gb of free space. what should i do?? im at total loss. plus my computer is 5 yrs old. should i just forget it and get a new computer?. please help me. thanks alot! xD

I would say 512 RAM is very slow,If you really want to upgrade and since your computer allows RAM up to 1GB , get a 1GB RAM.It would increase your comp speed.

I had 512RAm I recently upgraded it to 2GB.
And regarding your hard disk dont worry you still have 5GB right.If you really want to store something in that then you can upgrade that too..
It will cost a lot to upgrage the memory and the hard drive. That money would be better spent on a net computer. Seel your old one and use the money you get from it to offset the price of a new one. You didn'r specify what type of budget your on for anew laptop. Check out the link below
