A great buy from Dell;
Dell

Screen Size: 15.4 inches
Weight: 6.3 lbs
Processor Options: Core 2 Duo
Graphics Options: nVidia Go 8400m (Dedicated), nVidia Go 8600m (Dedicated)

(A very inexpensive way to get the latest unit with with all the top options)
You may want to add the dvd writer and the NV8400 GC otherwise you are set.
It has been getting great reviews;

The Dell Inspiron 1520 under review here is the latest 15.4” in an ever-growing succession of what can be categorized as “consumer mainstream” notebooks offered by Dell’s Home & Home Office division. Since the release of the 1520, Dell has also made available a very similar machine, the Vostro 1500, which can be purchased from the Small Business site. Unlike the Inspiron 1520, which can be configured with any one of eight different colors, the Vostro 1500 is solid black. The Vostro also provides a Windows XP option, which is unavailable in the Inspiron 1520.
macbook. but you don't need the macbook pro, just the regular one. it's the best choice, and you don't have to worry about viruses! :]
you should by an Hp Pavilion, that's a real good brand
you might wanna get a toshiba, but i just got an hp wodescreed and it's really SUPER fast and it's really reliable!
you should get it
MacBook indeed
I can tell you the one to stay away from and that's anything put out by HP.
Horrible computer, horrible customer service (everything is routed to India), just an overall bad experience on two occasions with two different computers.
OMG im so glad you asked! i just switched from pc to a mac and it was so easy.. it does everything a million times faster than any computer ive every had (ps dells are cheap but they are unreliable and sucky) so id go with a mac book or mac book pro depending on what you can afford ... if you do it online after signing on with your colleges thing you can get lots of good deals... you can look out for the free printer (after rebate deal) and the free i pod (after rebate) deal ... some run a bit more expensive but so far this is one of the best decisions ive ever made. it just runs everything sooo well im pretty much going to marry it... but yeah ive never heard anyone who had a mac complain about one so you cant go wrong with that :-)
heres a link with a bunch of people talking about mac and laptop stuff (more interesting towards the end)

HP Pavilion laptop all the way. Touch sensitive media buttons and media remote. Easy to use HP software to help you get started, reliable and powerful it's the ultimate computer for the price. Especially stay away from Dell, Acer and Toshiba, all are known for making low quality products and Mac, well they may be "secure" and "easy to use" but you will have a fun time finding games or software written for Mac.
Whatever you do...don't get a dell. Almost my whole family has them and Dell's are SOOOOOO SLOW!! And they freeze allll the time. HP, Sony, and I believe MacBooks are pretty good. HP's are probably the most affordable though if that's what you're looking for.
GET ANYTHING BUT A DELL!! THEY ARE HORRIBLE! THEY ARE SLOW AND CRASH A LOT!! THEY ARE LIKE THE MOST VIRUS PRONE COMPUTERS EVER! THAT'S WHY THERE SO CHEAP! Toshiba and Sony are great brands though.
I am placing a site link below where you can get 3 branded laptop models (HP Pavillion, Apple MacBook, Sony VAIO) to choose from and also get a good ladies' bag for your college life just at $109. At this price no one can give you new branded laptops.
So, click on the link below and go to the Promotion tag in the opened page.
