Why is the metal tip on the power cord to my laptop getting so hot?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1200 and it wasn't powering up because the cord had frayed wires. Also the metal tip of the power cord (the piece that goes into the computer) was getting very hot.so hot it would burn you if you touched it. I ordered a new power cord but the metal piece of the new cord is also getting very hot. The only differernce is that the new cord is powering up the computer. What's wrong?

Answers:
Most laptops vent from the back or sides..and need to.but some older models vent from the bottom. If your computer isnt venting well, it will overheat and can cause damage.
I don't believe there is anything wrong with it. Mine gets hot too. After all, it is where electricity is passing through all the time.
