Dell laptop monitor cracked. How to salvage everything else?

The monitor on my Dell Inspiron 9400 cracked, and the LCD is completely destroyed. However, everything else works great. Unfortunately, my warranty expired a few months ago, and I didn't renew it. My laptop has some hearty specs (a large HD capacity with 2 GB RAM and a great video card). What can I do to save its guts and put them into a new, cheap compatible laptop shell with a working monitor? I'm willing to pay up to $600 to replace it, as long as I have the option of saving my data and my hardware. Please help ASAP!

You have a couple options. The first is just to shell out money for a new screen. You'd probably save money in the long run. You could also get a connector cable and plug your laptop up to a newer TV or a desktop monitor and use it that way. Finally, you could just open up the inside, take everything out, and put it into a new frame. You shouldn't lose any information at all, as long as it is done properly. The first thing I would do is look up prices for a new screen though.
You say you have a good video card so use it. Go out and get an LCD display and hook it up into the video out connector on the video card. You do not need to replace anything like the laptop shell and it will work fine.
if you got a moniter for a desktop pc use it to backup any thing sesitive as in for parts you need to take it in to get a new moniter
You can buy from delll an lcd replacement kit its alot cheaper than 600 bucks so dont worry about buying a shell
