i hope to start shopping around for a new computer. the one i have now is getting too old. things are starting to fail on it. so far half the hinges for the screen (laptop) are gone, power button hardly works, volume buttons don't work, sometimes the keys don't work, the power cord doesn't always connect to the port. what i need to know is when i do get one. and when i download yahoo messenger. will i have to add all my contacts again?

you can sign on messenger on any computer and have all your contacts.
No you won't. They are saved server side. If you use a local email like outlook, you need to export your contacts to a file and save it to floppy or cd so you can import them back to outlook after it is re-installed.
If you just use yahoo, then no need to bother.
