To go wireless, you need to have a wireless card in your laptop. If you are not sure, just check your hardware device manager. If you do not have one installed, you still need to be hooked up by a wire.
you cant without a wireless router and a wireless adapter.
if your laptop has an ethernet port you can use that too.

first try setting up a wireless router, so you can gain access to the internet wireless...once the router is set up, try going to start>connect to>wireless network connection, and try finding your router, enter the required security key (if it requires one) and you must be able to navigate the internet after that.
If you have wireless, you should be able to get on if you have a signal. There should be something on your screen that looks like the signal (called an airport) you get on a cell, if you click on it there should be a whole bunch of names of connections. The only one that you don't need a password to is linksys. It depends on what computer you have. Try going to google and type what computer you have plus how to get on the internet using wireless. If wireless then you will need to make sure your wifi is turned on.
with wireless all you do is make sure your router is turned on or your reciving a wireless transmision.
go to control pannel and connect or connect to normally the wireless detects any wifi connection.
