Advice on laptops...?
and if you compare different brands, which is best in price, which is best in quality, and which would be best for schoolwork?
basically i use my comp for editing digital pics, music [itunes], checking email, and basic internet use so i dont need one that does -everything- and i need one kinda cheap but not in quality...basically average quality with a reasonable price.
so i know that was alot of questions but im trying to learn some about laptops before i decide on one :] so if you can answer any of those thank you so much!!!

I already answer this difference (see link), as follows:
"A laptop computer, or simply laptop (also notebook computer or notebook), is a small mobile computer, which usually weighs 2.2-18 pounds (1-6 kilograms), depending on size, materials, and other factors.
While the terms laptop and notebook are often used interchangeably, "laptop" is the older term, introduced in 1983, "Notebook computer" is a later coinage.
As of 2007, most manufacturers use the term "notebook" (or some variant thereof) for what most end-users call a "laptop".
Here in Taiwan, Taiwanese knew, and used mostly the term notebook than laptop."
To be fair, different people have their different views regarding which is best (in price, quality, etc. - that's why some have their reviews).
Personally, I have ECS G320 (VIA processor). Maybe you don't even heard of it. It's made in China. I bought for three reasons: cheapest, hook to another monitor, and just to have my laptop for my work (as computer programmer/technician).
If you want my opinion, then survey for the middle price (I mean not the cheapest or the most expensive). The brand? I may prefer such as ASUS, HP, ACER - in that order.
Please see my last link. I may like this one (nowadays) because of it's feature. It has VGA out and S-Video out. It means you can hook it on another monitor or hook it on TV! You may impress others if you have some visual illustration (for school or business) you like them to see.
Good luck!
To make your computer run faster, add memory. You can buy memory at Registry Optimize.com.
there is a difference between laptops and notebooks, laptops are from 3-10 pounds (give or take) and tend to be thicker, more than 1.5 in. notebooks are smaller, lighter, and more expensive due to the smaller parts. but laptops are sorta died out,
as far as brand, i enjoy HP, but theyre a tad bit more expensive, but worth it, ive never had any trouble with mine, Emachines arent that great, nor is Dell, dont go with those two, otherwise, i havnt heard too much about others
There are a lot of good laptops out there that will be sufficient for what you want it to do. It all depends on how much $$$$ you are willing to part with. You can go as expensive as Apple MacBook Pro or as inexpensive as some lower model Dell or Toshiba. But you would probably want something in between. One thing to look for is a real good video card. This is something you will not be able to upgrade in the future so, get one with a good video card now. This will take care of the music and digital images. Next, look for one with built-in wireless networking card as well as a wired network port.
Last, if it is a window machine (not Mac) and has Vista installed, get as much memory as possible. Vista is a memory hog. Vista Basic requires 512mb to run. So if your pc has only 512mb, it is going to be very slow. Vista Home premium uses 1gb RAM. So get one with as much RAM (Random Access Memory) as you can afford.
Good luck
When portables first came out the laptops were bigger, now the two terms are used interchangeably.
HP and Dell are the two top sellers and offer great value and choice.
One new model that is getting great reviews is Dell 1420;
A Bargain Hunter's Fantasy Laptop (Inspiron 1420 Review from PCMag.com - 6/26/2007)
The Dell Inspiron 1420 is destined to populate the homes of school-bound teens, sophisticated and unsophisticated computer users, and just about anybody who is looking for a terrific deal. The laptop's look has changed (for the better), and just because it's priced at $1,099 (direct) doesn't mean you'll get shafted with cheap processing parts. It's one of the few laptops, if not the only one, that gives you discrete graphics, a surplus of memory, different-color frames, and a host of other features that usually cost extra.
