Downgrade to XP?

Hi there, for Christmas I am getting a new laptop, probably this one http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/produ... would it be acceptable to remover Vista and install XP, because I overly prefer XP, or should I just use the quick upgrade thing and put Ultimate on it?

Answers:
.. thats a rather nice laptop. There are few things to consider when buying a new laptop. 1) if the default OS is Vista, it'll definitely support XP. No doubts. Now, Micro$oft will soon (presumably by the end of '08) stop supporting XP. There will be no more security and OS patches for XP. 2) I would personally prefer that you make a separate petition (aka virtual disk) and install XP on it. That way you'll still have Vista, yet you will be using the lovely XP :)

Good Luck !
It's a long time until Christmas! It is perfectly acceptable to downgrade to XP but it will cost you a small fortune to buy a copy.

Edit: Respondent Tyler does not know what he is talking about except insofar as you will need XP drivers for your hardware. Personally, I don't think you can beat Windows 98. So much faster shutting down and much more fun with all those hangs and blue screens.
no, it wont work. vista has completely different hardware specifically for vista. xp might not work with the vista hardware.
You can install XP to your PC.
To install XP, you need drivers for XP.

I still prefer windows 2000 rather than XP or Vista. Haha.
32-bit operating systems will work 100% fine on it. Don't worry about that. Installing XP over Vista on some laptops is easy, on most, its a pain because of finding drivers which many manfacturers may delete to be pressurized to move to Vista, like HP and Sony.
Yes it should be possible to install XP over Vista, doesn't matter which version of XP (pro or home) but I think if it's a x64 laptop it should be XP x64. (i.e. not x86) If you boot up from the Vista CD (if you get one), choose "repair console", type in "map" after C:/ and then: format C:/ fs:ntfs that will wipe the Vista installation off completely. Then install XP from the disk.
XP may need slightly different drivers than Vista, but not for everything.
You can downgrade but why? I've got vista home premium and have had no faults, any issues can be easily resolved, and I look forward to the day that Vista will be almost compusory for all softwere, upgrade to ultimate!
Good Luck anyway! (-:
