HP beenusing them for years not had mant problems would recommend staying clear of dell not very reliable.
Definitely a SONY,steer clear of a Dell

Do not get the apple mac book as someone said. They are overpriced and run hardly any software (unless you want to go to the hastle of dual booting but then you have to buy a seperate copy of windows aswell...)

sony vaio's over heat too, have crappy graphics cards (unless you spend 2k on it). and if you're just using it for work, surfing the internet and watching movies and listenning to music (hopefully not all at the same time) then you really don't need to waste your money buying a sony lap top.
You can buy an emachines, an IBM, or lenvono lap top, they are affordable, have good specs and definately usable to do what you have specified you would be doing.
Acer are a really reliable and quality make. They're doing some really competitive prices right now, and the build quality is a good as Sony.
Hey. Definatyley a Dell.
I have the Dell 6400, and it was made for me. Its a special laptop that specialises in entertainment, but i also use it for school.
You can personalise them and choose what programs you have on it and everything.
It is ace. honestly

An apple or a VAIO sonny now offer customize laptop at their websites the FE series are great you can customize the vid card and it starts with $800+ so when you customize it with what you want you have a good value and customize version laptop I bought mine cost only $1700 and it's already customize runs smoothly
With dell you can go online and basicly build your own laptop. You can upgrade, downgrade, sidewaysgade, what ever you like. If I was the manager of Dell then I'd definately make the slogan "YOUR pc"
