Dell E1705 Question, URGENT!?
Answers:
Yes, but you'll have to reformat your hard drive, meaning you will lose all the drivers (Video, sound, etc).
Why not try Vista? There is a "Windows XP compatibility mode" option for "legacy applications" but not all programs will run on Vista. Still, it may work for you. Why not try it, and roll back to XP if you have a problem?
Yes, you can. You can install XP on any capable PC.
Are you experiencing problems? If your laptop is working fine with Vista then don't worry about it.
If the notebook comes with Vista, then it will support any version of XP just fine. Just make sure you boot off the XP CD and re-partition the hard drive at the beginning. You have to re-partition the hard drive or Vista won't allow the "downgrade". Just delete the partition and re-create it.
Yes you can do it. Will you have problems with it? Highly likely. In my experience, Partition Magic is problematic, and even if you get XP to load on a separate partition, the likelihood of all the hardware working on your laptop is slim. There just aren't enough backwards compatible drivers for Vista specific hardware.
Just my experience...
The majority of problems people complaining about Vista is due to self upgrades to their computer that are made. Most of the time the hardware used is incompatible with Vista. Having a computer with Vista already installed will be fine, all the components are already Vista compatible. I would leave it alone. Word to the wise...get at least 2gb RAM installed. Vista is a RAM HOG!
