What is the best anti-virus software for a laptop?

According to Consumer Reports, Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware (PC-cillin Internet Securty 2007). Second on their list is Check Point ZoneAlarm Antivius (Internet Securty Suite 7.0).
I've only used McAfee and Norton, but there has been more than one occasion where I've had a virus that McAfee couldn't get rid of (or didn't detect at all) and Norton took care of it instantly. Plus you can usually update Norton for free each year if you buy it at the right time (end of the year) and get rebates. Downside to Norton is it slows your boot-up time wayyy down.
Edit: Just want to add, we used to have AVG on all of our computers at work. It works good for a free program, but it definitely slowed the computers down (it would even freeze them up on occasion, while it was running its updates/scans). Our employees were actually begging me to remove it, and once I did, there was a significant improvement. If you're looking for a freebie, get AVG. If you're really looking for the best, spend a little money and get something that will truly be an asset when you come into a big problem.
Edit #2: For free antivirus software, Consumer Reports recommends Alwil Avast. It was number 11 on their list. AVG was 12.
i hve tryed many norton takes the p*iss to install i recomend MCaffe they havent let me down. unless u want a free anti vir witch i would say avg, avast or going to www.download.com and read the revies of some
For me... there is no one antivirus is the best..
Why ? because when there are a new virus coming, they can not scan the virus.. and if the scan the virus.. they can not clean the virus..
So... my Advice is just use AVG or AntIvir, It is free.. (and also protective enough until you not open an email attachment from someone you can not trust)
Why use paying service if the new virus coming they can not handle that virus ?
AVG or AntiVir + Firewall (like Sygate free edition or zone alarm or else) + ad-aware SE. It is Good to protect you and also it is not make your PC / Laptop Slow..
Some People use Microsoft Virtual PC, if you have a big RAM, It is a good way to go Internet without worry about virus, Trojan, Mal ware.. because when you close the session (I mean the virtual PC).. everything will be gone !! there is nothing effect to your real computer.

consumer reports probably only reviews anti virus programs that you purchase. They don't cover freeware which is generally just as good!
I posted a question about how freeware programs compare to security programs that you buy. The general consensus is that the most important thing you can do is surf the internet safely. If you can do this, then the type of programs you use to protect your computer are not as important, but still important nonetheless.
I would suggest AVG Free Edition. Go to free.grisoft.com. It's reliable and doesn't slow your computer down at all.
