Does anyone one know how much it costs per month to rent a laptop from Rent-A-Center ?
Answers:
Ok I used to work for rent a center... (a waste of 10 yrs) New laptops start at 34.99wk(41.00 after taxes & fees) up to 39.99wk(about 48.00 after taxes and fees) monthly rates are figured by 4.333 wks so that would make it 178.00 to 208.00(taxes will vary but it should be very close) terms on new laptops are from 78 wks(18mths) to 104wks(24mths)... do the math and thats alot of money 3198.00/full term 1599.00/90 days same as cash for a 699.00 laptop on the "cheap one" on the top model it comes out to 4992.00/full term 2496.00/90 days same as cash for the one that runs about 900.00... they do have models cheaper but they at least 1yr old and still way over priced... save your money and get one some where else if you do have to do Rent to own look into Aarons they have a low price guarantee and will match regular stores like Circuit City and BestBuy or give you 100.00... there computers start at 99.00 month for 18 months about 120.00 a month after there taxes... When it comes down to it just save your money and just buy one outright avoid Credit Cards also.. they can cost much more than Even Rent to Own in the long run... any other questions just ask...
too much
for a month? almost the price of a new Dell.
Rent-a-Center WILL screw you. We tried to do a rent-to-own kind of deal on a huge flat screen tv and they screwed us. When we went down there to talk to them the manager got all violent on us. It was bad and we never did get our money back. They tried to say that we had to have this TV for at least 6 months which was not in the contract specifically. The contract can be read that way but it never states it. If it wasn't for the fact that we smoked out the delivery guy who told us how they misuse the contract, we would've probably be stuck with the TV and the ridiculous payments.
I suggest you do what we did...get a Best Buy card and put the laptop on the card. That way you are paying it off and most of your money goes to paying for the computer not their crappy rental charges. Believe me, with RAC, if I remember correctly, only half your monthly payment actually goes towards owning the laptop.
If you only need the laptop for a month, I guess RAC would work, but if you are looking for anything over a month DON'T DO IT. And if you do, get EVERYTHING in writing, make everyone print their name next to their signature or initials and do not pay for anything that is not in the contract!
I had to learn the hard way to never use RAC, hopefully my bad experience will be enough to persuade you not to use it...they run a shady business
For a notebook with basic specs, they charge around $50 a week. It's a lot of money, when you consider that it will take you two years to pay off the contract. About the only good with the deal, is the service contract you have for the term of the contract. Make you read over the contract and if you have to go this route, have them order you a new one. They have a catalog at the store that you can even order from.
There are other options for people with less than perfect credit. We all know how tight the Big Box stores have been with their credit lately. Is are places that will allow you to make a small down payment and set up a payment plan for the rest. Yeah the interest rate is still high and you may still feel like your getting raped.
HFC and American General give personal loans to people with credit issues. This actually you best route to go as your interest rate will be a bit lower and will improve your credit line faster. Then you will be able to shop for what you want.
