Can I make my laptop sound louder? Even with headphones it's too quiet?

The sound on my laptop is really low, no matter how high the volume control is set. If there's any noise around me, it's hard to hear my laptop, even with headphones on.

Check all of your volume levels and make sure that they are all up. You can also use some external speakers. You may want to also consider buying a USB sound card. I believe that you can even get a PCMCIA sound card. Check your local computer store or online stores such as Newegg.com
when you go into your volume properties with all the slider bars, check options>advanced controls to get more sliders to appear. sometimes the wave volume or other misc sliders are lowered by default.

ps also check the volume controls on the programs your using. windows media, itunes etc. (i know its obvious but sometimes we forget)
You have to buy speakers for it. I had the same problem - think it must be only a tiny speaker in the laptop or something like that because it doesn't go higher than a certain level. Impossible to watch films or anything without speakers! You can get cheapish ones for under £10 in tesco.
There is indeed a way to make your laptop sound louder. If you have a set of ordinary computer speakers you can plug those into your laptop which will cause the sound to amplify.

Though, I'm not 100% sure if that would still work if you wanted to use headphones as well.
make sure both the "VOLUME" and "WAVE" bars in the volume control are set high.
In the bottom toolbar there should be a little 'computer volume' button; turn that up. Also, make sure the regular volume on your laptop is up.
If you have everything at full volume, there is usually not anything you can do to increase it within the laptop itself. However, you can invest in a set of speakers or a headset that has its own volume control. You can use that volume to boost the sound further.
you can see if you can get a usb creative audigy 2 sound card for your laptops USB port and use that.
You can set up from the ctrl panel...
open ctrl pannel ...click on...sound and speech.and audio device..then from pick a task...choose adjust system volume
