Is 1 GB of RAM good enough for a laptop?
Here is what I plan to use it for:
-General Use(Internet, e-mail)
-Watching movies, listening to music
-And playing some video games, like Halo.
Will the RAM be good enough? Should I upgrade to 2 gigs for $150? Please help.
Thank you!
Answers:
halo1? 1gb is enough
halo 2? better upgrade to 2
I ran Vista with 1gb RAM on my laptop for a while, got absolutely sick of framerates in everything, WoW, Halo 2, HL2, even webpages with too much flash. Upgraded to 2gb, best $90 spent.
In the meantime, Vista has the ability to use usb drives like RAM. Its not as good as actual RAM, but there is a boost from it.
yes
I would go with 2 gigs because your gonna do games.
yes 1 gb is good
unless you are playing much bigger games than halo
1GB of Ram is excellent
But for games, 2GB probably will be the best
Yes, it is good enough. In fact, it will be more than enough if will have Windows XP and just enough if you will get Windows Vista Home Premium.
-General Use get a hp laptop with 2 gb ram that will be even better Dell they just dont make good laptop or pc go hp you will find they come out as da best
the more the merrier.
RAM is more used more gaming if you ask me and if you want to play older games like Halo then it should be more than enough.
2 gig would be much better but if u want to save money then that is good
upgrade to 2gb of memory. make sure u have a dedicated graphics card to play games.
1 GB is good. You will want to upgrade to 2 GB in a year or so.
I think 1GB is fine, as for the GAMES part you might need a better Video card if you have a bad one
1 gb is fine
if you plan on storing the movies and music, i would highly recommend upgrading. also, if you want to play video games you have to get a good graphics card. NVidia is pretty good so is ATI.
1gig is goob but since u will be playing games i would go with 2gigs n a better graphics if u alredy don hav but since its a xps it shud be good enough
This is really the bare minimum for Vista (which I assume you will be using if it is a new laptop).
Memory will have an impact on all aspects of the computer's operation, and so I would certainly look to take the upgrade to 2mb.
WTF?! They want to charge to $150 to upgrade your ram to 2Gb?!! RIP OFF!! You can buy Ram for laptops for about $60-70, Just make sure the laptop your buying has enough slots in the motherboard to fit another Stick of Ram.
I'd go for the 2Gb, its better in the long run and it does make your system run more effienctly and it will be Far more stable.
Why Buy Dell?... they ripp everyone off, they suck..$150 to uprgade.. LMFAO! daylight Robbery!
It depends on what major software you use or the purpose of usage.
For your purpose that you have listed, I feel its enough.
I have SAP installed in my laptop and have 1 GB RAM, but still its slow..
Get the 2GB for games. It will make a world of difference!!
1gig is enough for now... anyways you can always upgrade it later... most games require a minimum ram of 256mb and 1gig for those uber cool games... ram reaching more than 1 gig doesn't get that big boost anymore...
1 Gig should be plenty depending on how much gaming your going to do with it. I would be careful though. Generally laptops are not designed for hardcore gaming and will overheat if pushed too hard.
I would have thought 1Gb Ram was sufficient, my PC has 1Gb Ram and runs pretty well. But if you're really into gaming which will be the most demanding way to use it then 2Gb might give you the edge. Do you need it? that is up to you, ask someone you know who knows.
I think 1 gig is good enough. since you are not storing anything excessive. I have 512 MB and I play games of all sort on it. you don't want to have any unnecessary expenses.
Hope that's helpful.
A 1Gb is good, but I'd rather go for a 2Gb, for all the above mentioned the laptop will work fine, but if you want to play games without hassels, or slow loading, then go for a 2Gb, it makes a huge diference. Today it might be fine, in a month or so your gonna want that upgrade.
It's probably more than you will need unless you are editing movies, and playing hi end games. But at the price of ram these days, the more the merrier.
The problem with computer manufacturers is that by the time you get the computer, it's out of date, new games will require more and more resources, so it really doesn't hurt to have more than you need.
you should get 2 GB
