Please, need technical advice choosing laptop?

Here my options:

Dell vostro 100: AMD AthlonTM 64 X2 Dual-Core processor TK-53 (1.7GHz/512KB) , $500

Dell inspiron 1501: Mobile AMD Sempron™ 3500+ (1.8GHz/512KB), $500

Compaq Presario C500T: Intel(R) Celeron(R) M Processor 520 (1.6 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) , $450

Compaq Presario V6000Z: AMD Athlon(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TK-53 (1.7 GHz, 512KB L2 Cache) $500

I want a about $500 laptop, for work. I'd like a Dual core but they all are AMD 64 , that means they are 64 bit processors?? This will give me trouble if i plan to use windows 32 ??

Answers:
The Sempron and Celeron processors are not good. Skip those options. The first and last systems are fine (they are actually the same). The Sempron is an energy starved slow processor and the Celeron is handicapped processor.

The 64 in AMD just means it can to 64 bit. It does not have to. You can easily use Windows XP or Vista 32 bit on those systems. Be sure to get at least 1 GB RAM on XP or 2 GB RAM on Vista.

I like Dell quite a bit, but I think Compaq has better phone support.

Good luck.
the second seems like a best choise.

and no...u will not have trouble...
the compaq ones are pretty good but dell is the over all better brand of laptops for work and school.
get one that is fast and can handle lots of storage and programs.
good luck and enjoy.
my advice from a technical point of view is to forget laptops completely! they are totally non upgradeable and eat batteries average battery life is 3 years and average cost of replacement is £100.00
get a good desktop instead
Given no specifics about the rest of the laptops (hard drive, RAM, CD drives, speeds of those, monitor, size, weight, etc.), I will assume they are about comparable, and if not, hopefully you can weigh the balances of those against each other.

AMD 64 means that they are 64-bit compatible. You should not have problems running Windows 32-Bit ("Regular windows"), as the CPU core has a program that emulates that it's a 32 bit processor and allows it to run on the 64-bit processor. The only things I have had problems with (on my AMD 64 X2 4400+) are really old school games/applications..like from 1993. Old. Since those run in either 8-bit or 16-bit, and the 64-bit processor has no emulation to run those, they won't run.

To make it simpler: Your old 32 bit processor used to run old games (the 8/16 bit ones) because it could emulate their environment. In the same fashion the 64 bit processor has capabilities to run 32 bit apps, but not to run 16/8 bit ones. (removed the feature to run more efficiently)
No the dual core will work fine in 32 or 64 bits.
