My new internal laptop harddrive is not being recognized.?

my old laptop needed a larger capacity harddrive so i bought a new one. when i took out the old one and installed the new one, the computer says that there is no harddrive. the older harddrive looked a little different and the pins stuck out longer is there a way to correct the new one?

Answers:
First, make sure you correctly installed the hard drive. When you start the computer, enter BIOS setup and make sure that BIOS recognizes the hard drive. If your hard drive is really large, it's okay if BIOS can't determine the size of the hard drive. Just make sure it detects the hard drive. If it can't detect the hard drive, then check that all the pins are aligned right and everything is connected. If it's a cable, check both ends of the cable. Make sure both ends are connected. If the hard drive connects to the motherboard directly with pins, clean the surface with something. Make sure there's no grease or dirt inside where the pins touch the board, and then put everything back in. Tighten all the screws. Replacing the hard drive is different for each laptop, so I don't know what else to say... ;-)

Secondly, if the hard drive is too big, that's okay. (When I say "TOO BIG" I mean if it holds more than 2, 8, or 13 gigabytes.) Just install EZ-BIOS, and it will solve your problem! If you can't download EZBIOS from the internet, I can send it to you in an email. It's only about 500KB. You should create a Windows 98 boot floppy disk and copy the EZBIOS files on the floppy disk or you can burn them to a bootable CD... Anyway, just boot from the disk and install EZBIOS. After you install EZBIOS, you can go ahead and install Microsoft Windows. (Note: If you plan to install Linux, you will not need EZBIOS!)
The laptop may be to large for your computer modle to regognize.
This happened to me, check to see if there is a cover over the pins, there is many times a double pin configuring the single pin configuration underneath, if it is a Seagate, this could be the case.
