i keep my toshiba laptop plugged in all the time ...i have windows XP and the battery icon keeps flashing on which means it isnt charging any time the icon is on..the connection is not right....the bloody laptop will switch itself off when the battery is done even when the ac lead is still plugged in .that shouldnt be..when you twiggle the joint where it plugs into laptop the icon goes off and when you let go it comes back on again..but there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the ac lead.....feck

if you think it's the battery's problem. then pull the battery out and use only AC.
Its most likely the jack, not battery, where you put the AC lead in does it move about? If so it could have worked loose or broke the solder on the mother board if you have pulled the lead while it was charging
no, just overheated =) same thing happens to mine, try putting it on your lap, not on a desk or other surface you have it on, if you have it on your lap, the i guess it is fecked.
laptops are met to be run on battery when keeping the plugged in other than to charge will damage the battery
if you must run on ac take the battery out
