A laptop with No operating sysytem?

I need help. I'm about to but a laptop online that has no operating sysytem installed onto it i'm thinking about buying windows vista home premium or ultimate and I want to install it on there so can anybody tell how to install a laptop with no os preinstalled in it

Answers:
Dont go with Vista. Does it have more then 1GB RAM. Stay with XP!
you will have to turn the laptop on to open the cd drawer. insert the OS cd and close the drawer. restart the laptop, and it will walk you thru the rest.
first a laptop is like any computer just smaller
just so you know vista has a LOT of problems and most of your software will not work with it.
now on to what you asked
boot with the windows CD (XP is recommended)
format the hard drive and let it install windows
then you need to go to the maker of the laptops website and download the drivers for that laptop (if you had said the brand i would have given you a link to its drivers)
install those and your good to go
First you better check the specs on this laptop to insure it meets the hardware requirements for vista! If you want to save money go with Ubuntu Linux, it has more features than Vista, is compatible with almost every piece of hardware on the planet, and oh yeah, it's FREE!!!!!

Download it here:

If you decide to go with Vista I have some great hacks for it to open it up a bit.

List the specs of your 'new' notebook. We can than help you better with a new OS. As long as you have the install disk for your choice of OS's, then making sure the computer will boot from the CD drive is all you need to do. It will start automatically.

Could be a perfect time to load up Ubuntu...it's easy to install and setup, even free.

You should check to see if the laptop has enough power for Vista. This OS has specific minimum requirements for processor speed, memory, and video memory.

One open source choice, if you want to try Linux, is the Ubuntu version. It installs with the OS and word type program. If you need more, you can check out all the open source offerings at http://www.osalt.com/ . This gives you open source alternatives to most software on the market.
