I want to make a copy of pics from my thumbdrive for someone else, but I don't want to have to save it to my laptop to do this. I was told that was easiest. I just want to go from thumbdrive to DVD. Possible?

Yes it is possible, but not advisable. As a thumbdrive is removable, you might accidentally hit/remove the thumbdrive while it's still copying the data into the DVD. Otherwise, it is still possible.
