This really helped me clean my laptop, hope it helps you :)
Rubbing alcohol work for me.
NO! Never use harsh chemicals on your laptop. For keyboard, use the canned compressed air (buy them at Office Depot, Staples, Best Buy etc) to blow the dust out. I would not blow the compressed air into openings hoping to blow dust out other holes. That tends to pack dust in even tighter. In case you spilled food on the keyboard (ugh), DISCONNECT your laptop from the power outlet and REMOVE THE BATTERY, then wipe the stain with a clean tower and warm water, even with a small amount of mild soap.

I clean my laptop screen with a damp soft tower, sometimes with a little mild soap (like nonscented Dove) to remove the finger grease. Of course, I first disconnect my laptop from the power outlet or battery backup, and I remove the laptop battery. I then gently lay the screen flat, then I very softly wipe my screen with the damp tower. You should squeeze out as much water as you can from your tower before you use it to wipe the screen. After I'm done, I would pat (not wipe) the screen down with a soft dry tower and let the laptop lie there overnight to dry up completely before I plug the battery back in.

Moisture inside your laptop is deadly. Never let water or liquid seep into the cracks like the edge of the screen. Nail polish remover is harsh stuff and can damage even keyboards.
Don't use nailpolish remover AT ALL as it contains Acetone which can affect certain types of plastic and paint. It may not affect your keyboard (but could take the letters off) but may dissolve parts of the underying plastic inside the notebook. Don't use any chemicals on it at all unless they are guaranteed to be suitable for notebooks. Remember that some notebooks (such as IBM's) have a rubberised surface which can be affected by different chemicals to those which affect hard plastics.

For cleaning the screen, buy a commercial LCD screen cleaner - this will be much cheaper than replacing a laptop screen damaged by a chemical.

Make sure the notebook is switched off and unplug it from the mains, then clean the keyboard and case with a very slightly damp cloth but ensure that no water gets between the keys, or in any of the ports which could short it out when you switch it back on again. Wipe over with tissue to remove excess water, then allow to dry for a considerable time. DON'T warm the notebook to help it dry out as this could warp the case, keyboard or screen.
