any brand will do, i personally desise dell but that's just me. OK next, there's a difference between Mermory (RAM or Random Access Memory) and what you are talking about (Hard Drive Space) your going to need probably 1 GB of RAM and like you said 160GB is good for a laptop, maybe even on the high end. I wouldn't worry too much about processor, just NOT pentium (they suck)
sence you dont know that much just go on dell.com and get 1, then you'll already have 1 built,, it should be eazy and real simple
you probably want like a dell laptop, or um,something along thoughs lines.
for an internet i suggest any laptop RUNNING XP wit a 512 MEG ram and at least an 80 gig HD....
i have a toshiba laptop got it really cheap only 250 bucks but it was on sale and its a newer laptop and runs great
generally, most laptops in the 700-750 range can do just about everything you can want a laptop to go, including gaming (depending on the video chipset)
overall.. determine exactly how much you want to spend, then compare systems in that price range..I would recommend picking the system with the most physical RAM (as most systems in a specific price range will be relatively similar as far as processors and hard drive sizes go for the most part..)
in terms of brand names.. thats more of a personal choice. for me, as long as it works how I expect, I don't care who made it
Get a Dell Inspiron 1520 at dell.com. A dual core or core duo processor with at least 1GB Ram will be fine.
I had the same problem. Hubby wanted laptop I had no idea so I went to PCWorld and asked them they were great and a real help.
If in doubt ask an expert. Always works for me.
