As anyone with a laptop will know (Im hoping anyway!) when you shut Windows down it will close and then your laptop power will switch off. Heres the problem: sometimes when I switch my laptop off (although starting to happen on a regular basis now) Windows will take ages to shut down and then my power will stay on for my laptop. I keep using the actuall power button to down off the power but Im pretty sure this isnt going to end well or be good for the laptop. Additionally, sometimes if I leave it long enough after Windows has shut down, a blue screen will flash up with which I can only describe as lots of little lines on and the laptop will load back up (as if it has been restarted). Also, almost the same thing happens when I try to restart it (either nothing/takes forever/blue screen thing). I have a Acer Aspire 5100 with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. Somebody help please!!!
P.S. Can circumnavigate this problem sometimes by logging off then using shutdown option there.

youre not shutting it down youre sending it to sleep which is another option on the drop down
sorry for you
I've heard a lot of complaits about vista @#$ up; if you have to reformat the thing try and see if you can find either windows 2000 pro or windows xp
hopefully microsoft will come out with an update disc
(like they did for windows 98 (second edition updates))
this vista version came out before it was finished
vista ha ha h a get rid of it -
On Vista the "button" that looks like it should shut down the computer actually puts it to sleep. I think this is Microsoft's way of getting your computer to start faster (and who cares about global warming). If you click on the arrow that is just over to the right of the "shut down" button you will get a menu of options, including one that lets you shut down the computer properly.
I also have such problems!! Try re-formatting your computer, the problem should be sloved.
