Can i expand my ram on a dell inspiron 1501?

my ram is:

512MB DDR2 SDRAM 533MHZ, 1 DIMM

does this mean that there are 2x(256mb) or one 512mb ram. can this ram be expandable? If it can what type of ram do i need to get?

Answers:
You're computer has two memory slots. One of them is currently occupied with a 512MB stick. If you want 1GB you can put a 512MB DDR2 PC4200 SODIMM stick.
Hey,

I'm assuming that this is a laptop... chances are you can upgrade it. As far as what path you should take and how much, go to kingston.com or crucial.com That site can do one of two things, either scan your system or you can give it the specs yourself and it will tell you what your options are and what type of RAM you should get.

Brandon
Go to http://www.crucial.com there you can download a scanner to check your laptop. It will then give you the different options you may have to upgrade.
Knowing Dell, it's probably 2x256. It's just 2 slots, so you have to get rid of that RAM, and throw it away or sell it.
