Windows recovery, cause to lost of partitions?

Recovery CDs containing Windows are not the same as retail Windows boxes. Recovery CDs will restore the computer to exactly how it was when you bought it, and it will repartition the hard disk so that there is a recovery partition. IF you want to recover Windows without losing your partitions, obtain a Windows CD (which could be expensive), install. Trouble is you will have to install everything manually. Another solution is to store your personal data on an external hard disk so if you need to recover Windows again, your data will remain intact
