Is it better to go ahead and buy laptop with 2GB or upgrade later?
Answers:
You must spend your money for the best brand.
As I know HP and Dell are the best in laptops for a long time and they are very reliable too. I trusted HP and I bought a HP laptop 2 years before, and still like the day I bought it. Didn't even have to service it at least once up to now.
I recommend you to buy a HP (with experience) or Dell laptop.
On www.hp.com you can even customize your laptop. And also you can check the price.
buy the ram with it. as for the hard drive, get the least expensive hard drive now and then later on buy an external one. that is the better thing to do. Oh and dont buy acer. u will cry. HP is a good bet.
Matters what you want to do
are you going to do anything that is power hungry on your laptop or that requires lots of apps and windows open?
and are you going to take up loads of HDD space?
if so, you should get the laptop with 2GB RAM.
Still, the 1GB one wouldnt be bad.
I've heard that Acer are meant to be OK-ish.
hope this helps :)
and if you're going to be using the laptop out and about alot and you have alot of files, the bigger hard drive would be better because you dont want to be carrying around and external HDD with you all the time.
I would get the 2GB of ram and get at least a 100GB hard drive but i still think more is better but external hard drives are cheap. As for the brand don't get everex but Acer is a good brand especially if you're looking to save money.
What OS are you buying? If you are getting XP, it should be fine to go with 1GB. On the other hand, I would go with 2GB for Vista.
Everex and Acer are just as good as HP and Gateway. The only difference may be in the reliablilty and quality of customer service.
HP and Toshiba currently make the best laptops. Dell's are pretty good, but occassionally I run into someone who got a lemon and is bitter about it. I personally wouldn't buy an off brand of laptop to save money because I have known several people who have gotten one that have nothing but problems. I absoultely wouldn't recommend a Compaq even though it is made by HP.
If you are buying a laptop with Vista and it is any version other than basic, you are better gettting 2 gb of ram now as the premium, business, and ultimate versions all need more ram to process, and take advantageof all their features, and it will run slower once you start putting software on it. Ram does get cheaper over time, but eventually it will be hard to find smaller dimms of ram to benefit from this, so you kindof have to buy at the right time. When you do make your purchasing decision, whatever it is, make sure you know how many slots you have for ram and what the configuration is.
On a laptop, you may only have two slots and the 1 gb of ram may be taken up by two 512 mb dimms meaning both of your slots are full and you'll have to remove and replace one dimm to add more ram. You can mix and match sizes of ram (512, 1 gb, 2gb, etc) up to the maximum amount the motherboard will support, but you have to make sure that you use the same type of ram (examples: PC100, PC3200).
With regards to harddrives, look at any computer you may use now and how much of its harddrive space you are taking up and my guess will be that even the basic (smaller sized) hd that you will get with your new laptop will probably be enough (if you are looking for lower end laptops, you are probably not concerned about "extreme" performance and capabilities), so I feel this is probably an accurate recommendation. Changing a hd out technically is pretty easy, but isn't really worth the time and trouble if you don't have to do it (if you're only doing it because you have collected alot of clutter and don't want to clean it out). My recommendation here is to get whatever you want to get and then you can always buy an external drive later if you end up needing it.
I have seen studies that show that AMD processors are actually faster (better) than their Intel counterparts, but everyone thinks that Intel is better because they do more marketing (AMD does almost no marketing and so there processors are usually cheaper).
You should just buy a computer with 2GB of memory. That way, you won't have to upgrade when you can just get a computer with that amount of memory. If you really want a computer that has 1GB of memory, and you want 2GB of memory, you can upgrade, but 1GB of memory is a lot of memory.
